Subject: HCR IV Report - long - WG's version Resent-Date: Sat, 7 Apr 2001 21:35:19 -0400 Resent-From: vulcan@vroc.org Date: 8 Apr 2001 01:35:20 GMT From: "wg" Organization: Vulcan Riders and Owners Club (VROC) local newserver Newsgroups: local.vroc.techtalk The VROC crowd descended on a sleepy Fredericksburg Texas, mostly on Thursay night. I showed up on Friday morning on the newly pistoned Bubby Faye and since I got there a tad late, I went out with the "Stately" riders... Guess who Oldman put in charge of the "Stately" riding group? Chewy (Chewbaca)... If you haven't met Chewy, he is a treat. Guess why they gave him that nick? Anyway, Chewy is a member of good standing of the "DARK SIDE" otherwise known as the WFO group... Once out of town, the "Stately" group was strung out for about 27 miles bhwhahaha. I removed any remaining chrome from the underside of Bubby Faye's disgusting Cobra slip ons and was impressed when our leader disappeared into the distance after the ride. I normally am not impressed but Chewy's 100 mph shoulder pass of a blue hair in a Chevy left me in awe as it opened up my imagination to a totally new passing technique I had not imagined before. After the ride, the group went to Luckenbach where the posers were out in full force. Never saw so many expensive clones in one place without a trailer close by. How those folks can ride those bikes with them about a half inch off the ground amazes me. Chewy made an attempt to remove the Southern Cruiser brick located near ours with his pig sticker and after some tire kicking, we all went off to the great dinner arranged by Oldman/Slash at the German restaurant across the street from the motel. The food and fellowship were great. I sat with Tom Miller, Margot, Zach (rides an Ultra), Mark Strachan, Pearl and Swine Hord, and Carver Bryant and his lovely wife whose name I have forgotten. Tom and Margot braved some lousy weather to make it down and are both tougher than I am... I put about 400 miles alltogether on the BUBF by the time I went back home... It was farther than I thought to F-bug (about 75miles) and next year will try and stay over. On Saturday, the weather continued to be perfect for riding; almost 80 and overcast. I slowed down and rode with a 4th group that was formed in reaction to the previous day's plunge into the "DARK SIDE". I had the pleasure to lead the "SUPERGEEZER" group. We rode around south of F-burg. The scenery was wonderful and the ride turned into a real cruise. We did a liesurely ride on 1888 over to Blanco and picked up Mark Strachan's lovely wife Suzie (hope I spelled this correct) and I bought some of the best yogurt almonds I have ever had at one of the tourist food goody shops. We meandered for a while and then head up to Llano. Reports of stuff falling off my Venture will probably be exagerated by others and I deny everything up front. We took a side road off of Hwy 16 to Llano and the wild flowers were truly incredible. Remember seeing the Wizard of Oz for the first time???... black and white and then all of a sudden vibrant stunning color? The bluebonnets mixed with those reddish orange flowers with splashes of white and yellow knocked my socks off... Anyway, we get to Coopers and there must have been a zillion folks waiting to be served. I normally will turn around a run for the hills when I see a line like that but something about the smell kept me around. Wiliedog invited me to have some blackberry cobbler which he graciously saved for me (it was all over his shirt). I got a little of the best brisket I have ever had, my wife Claudia got a 4 inch thick BBQ pork chop... I didn't bother with the beans and slaw at this place... Mark Stachan looked kind of green around the gills as they rolled him out the door ;-) Ever watch one of those science movies where the anaconda snake sucks down a whole pig? Maybe you get the idea... After a late lunch, we headed off for the Willow Loop. Folks started to drift off to take pics and enjoy the prettiest 20 miles of flowers, cliffs, river and incredible Texas panorama. Margot, Tom Miller and my wife and I were all that were left of the SUPERGEEZER group and Margot headed off with Coyote and Wiliedog who we met at the end of the Willow Loop ride. Tom was getting nervous about his gas situation but I was confident we could also see the Enchanted Rock up about 5 miles north of the Willow Loop because the Venture holds about 6 gallons and I had a long syphon hose. We looked at the Enchanted Rock (it is a big round rock over 400 feet) and looked at the crazy people climbing the big rock for a while and then headed back to F-burg... Tom was on reserve (fumes) but I now know that a Classic can get about 140 miles before reserve as I had 145 on my odometer as we rolled into the Texaco station. Claudia and I decided to forego the tire kicking in Luckenbach where everyone else headed. I gave Tom directions and we parted ways and drove into the setting sun to our home in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. My biggest surprise was getting to meet Augie who was down to the San Antonio area on business. He is a great guy and it proves there are good people even among Yankees and my biggest disappointment was Bama and Francis (I hope you forgive my spelling), were down ill and we didn't get to ride. They did make it up to the lunch at Cooper's and were in good spirits but still looked a bit peaked. I will say a prayer for their safe arrival in La. Bman seemed to be hog tied into organizing next year's HCR. Hope that the place in F-burg will take us back as the testosterone level got pretty high in their parking lot with lots of rubber on the ground and the sound of Pro-pipes, slash cuts, dual baggers and drag pipes made lots of music. Thanks to Oldman / Slash for organizing a great do in an organization with no organization ;-) God bless Texas! -- wired =v=2420 SCRC 16117 ISRA 1824 Venturers 147 - Chaplain CMA 74623 Alamo Apostles 96 BUBF 00 RSV MM Ltd #13 Mico Tx. reply: lesho@bigfoot.com HEY BUBF OWNERS! go look-> http://www.gis.net/~manjo
